In celebration of Parks and Recreation month, here are some facts about trees in the United States that we bet you didn’t know!
1. Long-leaf pines can survive forest fires, which used to occur naturally in the southeastern United States.
2. Did you know that the world’s largest tree is a giant sequoia in California named the General Sherman Tree? It stands 274 feet tall, and its trunk is 103 feet around!
3. In the western United States, some bristlecone pine trees are known to be more than 4,600 years old!
